There's a pretty old practice for general contractors and similar tradesmen of placing their business card into whatever they're building. I'd imagine if some old house fell down somewhere you'd find a mess of cards in the rubble like little breadcrumbs telling the story of the house. Video games aren't all that much different. Game designers like to leave their marks in their own little way and I'm particularly fond of finding those little treasures.
For those unaccustomed with the gamer vernacular, Easter eggs are simply little hidden bits of a game that could be anything from an obscure reference, secret feature, strange tie in, or mark from the developer. For example if you played the FPS classic Doom 2 you'd find the hidden John Romero head on a pike behind the final boss, the infamous hot coffee mod for San Andreas, or even something as simple as Yoshi hiding at the top of the castle in the original Mario 64 for the N64.

I myself have slipped in quite a few easter eggs into my websites, leaving my proverbial business card where ever I go. Some of you may have spotted my eggs in CCNGTA or while I was GMing on IPY or UO:Redemption. Do you have a favorite?
