Every once in a while a game comes out and completely flies under the radar. You spend dozens of hours playing it then when you go to ask your friends about it or look up more information on it you find that it’s no where near as popular as you suspected while playing it. Here’s a list of four ground breaking games that not just flew under the radar because of greatness, but they even went as far as to inventing genres.

I’m a big nerd if you haven’t quite picked up on that. Play video games, work with computers, read lots of books, laugh a too hard at internet memes, and can hold my own a little too well in conversations about Star Wars. I’m assuming by the nature of this website some of you people are a bit nerdy as well. My personality type is heavily introverted, like most nerds, but I’m comfortable in most any social situation from dating, to the bar scene, or just meeting new people which is unlike a lot of my nerdy counterparts. It all boils down to a decision I made about ten years ago.

I don’t get it. I never got it. There, I said it, put it out there for all other gamers to lambaste me. I remember as a kid firing up the Nintendo and playing the first Final Fantasy that managed to cross the Pacific and land in my console and enjoying it. The combat was neat, the story was pretty straight forward, and the RPG elements were abundant and fun. I kind of got it. Now, after seeing Final Fantasy XIII’s trailer, hearing some crappy music straight out of romantic comedy montage while gender ambiguous characters zip around in slow motion.

I’ve always been a massive fan of the Fallout series, I remember purchasing the first two games when I was dead broke and had a jalopy for a computer. Unfortunately recommending everyone go back and play it nowadays, especially with Fallout 3 out there, would be a bit of a stretch thanks to the graphics. One of the key elements that I really enjoy about the game was its robust and interesting atmosphere I can only appropriately sum up as “the future that never was”. My computer’s been recently upgraded and with this I’ve solved a major lock up error in Fallout 3 allowing me to revisit the game with renewed interest. While fumbling around the internet soaking up Fallout lore I stumbled across an entire Fallout game that never was.

Re:Command and Conquer 4Yep they consolized the crap out of the game. They butchered Dawn of War 2 as well, some people like that game, but to me the 1st is superior in everyway. Vilos_Cohaagen 27.7.2010 14:56 |
